- Site adjacent to the Howland Integrated Forest Study (HIFS).The vegetation is dominated by red spruce (Picea rubens Sarg.) (µ 50% of live basal area), with occasional codominant white pine (Pinus strobus L., µ 22%) and eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis Carr., 13%). Stand age is uneven (45–130 years), which reflects a logging history of single tree selection. Little or no understorey vegetation is present.
